superbad - what it is!

These six young musicians from Hamburg formed the band in 2003 to play the music, they wanted to play: Just plain Funk. Looking for challenge and training they started reciting the "Bible of Funk" : JAMES BROWN - productions from 1966 to 1976 ( also the J.B.`s, Lyn Collins, Maceo Parker, etc.).

So far so good, but what is the new thing about superbad? It is the performance concept. They have got no frontman. They are accompanied by a DJ, who cuts vocals into the "historical" grooves. Of course, they use James Brown a lot, but they also use rappers like Chuck D (Public Enemy), Rakim or Talib Kweli. superbad creates a direkt connection between modern Hip Hop and this basic Funk music, which was looped and sampled to bring life to the idea of Hip Hop. superbad goes further, they do Drumbreaks, Beatjuggling, interacting between DJ, horns and audience. This fresh concept together with the power of handplayed live - funk can make everybody dance and shout.
